Reciting nursery rhymes is the best way to begin teaching rhyming to preschoolers. We start the school year with nursery rhymes and continue them all year long.

Explain that rhyming words are words that have the same ending sounds. For example, cat and hat are rhyming words. Read aloud some entries from your book of nursery rhymes, and emphasize the rhyming words as you go along. Use pictures or spoken words, rather than printed words, with these games. For learning to produce rhyme, the game KABOOM ! The game is so simple to make.


On one end of the craft stick, you write a word to rhyme to and on a handful of sticks write the word KABOOM! Place all the sticks in a pot with the word at the bottom. Learn about rhyming and play games with your favorite PBS KIDS characters like Martha Speaks, Super Why, WordGirl and Elmo!
