They won’t be there in person yet, but you can make them feel like they’re part of the team before they even step through the door.
Send them something nice. It’s standard practice to send new employees a contract and company handbook. Show you appreciate them. There’s nothing worse than landing a new position and being ignore even if that’s because others are deep in their tasks.
Planning an out-of-the-office casual meeting (e.g. for lunch) where team members can get to know each other better. Assign a work friend. Managers usually oversee their new team members ’ onboarding processes.
But pairing a new employee with a colleague can help to make them more comfortable.
The best place to begin is by opening a line of communication. Get the conversation going with your new team member by reaching out with an official welcome call. As you speak with them, don’t forget to take notes!
Traditionally on an employee’s first day , they would be shown around the office and introduced to their coworkers and new team members.
