I got a new kitten and my cat hates me

Cats are a unique species, and if you’re looking for a pet that shows you constant affection, dedication, and an obvious form of love, you probably should have opted to adopt a dog. Congrats on the new kitten ! It sounds to me like your current kitty is reacting the way most cats do when their owner brings home a new cat. Its only been a day, and she will need more time to adjust. The process of fully introducing a new cat will sometimes take several weeks or more.

How do I get my older cat to accept a new cat?

Can a cat get along with a new kitten? I got the kitten all settled and everything, but now my older cat hates me. I had a real bond with him until I introduced a male ragdoll kitten into the family.

My cat constantly hisses and growls at Leo. Pet your new kitten an at the same time, allow your older cat to sniff you while you give it its favorite treats. This may help to teach your cat that the scent of the new kitten is not a bad thing. Over time, your older cat may start to associate the smell of the kitten with treats, making it a positive scent. When you bring a new cat into your home environment, your existing cat or cats may behave in a similar way.

They will likely regard the new cat as a stranger and not as a member of the family.

They don’t hate the new cat — they are simply scared of him and need time to learn that the new cat is not a danger. Introduce Your Cat to the New Kitten. Go directly to the room previously designated and set up for your new kitten and allow the kitten to explore. The litter box, food bowls, be and some toys should all be easily accessible.

This cat is honestly my friend and it would be impossible to overstate how much I love her. She is just an amazing, amazing creature. Since we got the new kitten (who we immediately fell totally in love with, too), she has been tense and aloof. The story of the jealous older child and the brand- new baby is an old standby at family reunions. My own mother loves to tell a version starring my 16-month-old self as the resentful toddler.

The flip side is that she may hide from you or act standoffish, prompting the question, does my cat hate me ? Often the adopting family already has a c. She has been the only cat the whole time. Because my cat (Priscilla) hisses at her. She hisses at the kitten then she runs away back into my bedroom i guess because shes scared of the little kitten. Update : my new kitten is an orphan i took it back home and as soon as my cat saw it my cat started to hiss and growl alot. Cats respond to few things as well as food.

Don’t take this personally, in my experience it’s really not the case. It’s more likely that your cat is upset because of the new cat entering the home and they are in a mood. Cats can be loveable, friendly pets — but sometimes they might not like you very much.

Cats might also bite you or hiss at you if they aren't your biggest fan. If your cat has a lowered or puffed-up tail, it could mean they are afraid or uncomfortable. My 4yo female cat hates the male kitten I just rescued. The thing is she is not aggressive towards him. Just constantly growls and hisses if he tries to get close to her.

I tried the whole keep kitten in a room for a few days but my cat did not try to investigate what was behind the door. Keep your resident cat happy. When you get a new kitten its it’s easy to forget to give your resident cat the love and attention that he’s become accustomed to before you got your new kitten. It’s really important not to do this!

Giving tons of attention only to the new kitten may cause your resident cat to get jealous, potentially. My year old cat hates my boyfriend since we moved in together. She was fine with him, until we brought in a street kitty, and she stopped sleeping in the room with us. The cat parent almost forces the two together. Add to that, the fact that this person is probably spending time in more areas of the house that the cat.

However, I found a kitten (about weeks old) on my drive a few weeks ago, it was shaking and shivering and was starving, so I took it in. Status aggression occurs when a cat attempts to run the house. Cats who growl when you try to move them, block doors, or bite you when you pay attention to another pet may be asserting themselves in this manner. A cat ’s sense of hearing is also acute.

Your cat may perceive a different car as it pulls.
